TOTP
Time-based One-Time Password
Geek Speak:
A temporary password, good for one use.
Plain English:
What Is a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP)?
A Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) is a temporary code that changes every 30 seconds or so and is used as an extra step to verify your identity when logging into an account.
Instead of just entering a password, you also enter this short-lived code, usually generated by an app on your phone like Google Authenticator or Authy.
Because the code changes frequently and is only valid for a short time, it makes it much harder for hackers to break in, even if they have your password.
In simple terms, TOTP is like a secret code that keeps changing to keep your accounts extra safe.
